A Caracara proudly presenting its rough and stunning kingdom.
Couldn't resist to take one frame for the postcard ;)
Although these towers of ice are huge, they remind me of an army of dwarfs.
Hope everyone is feeling cold or warm now ;) CU!

The national park is a little paradise for different kinds of shorebirds.
Autumn birds
Sunday, 22 November 2015
Since autumn slowly comes to an end here, I can start to share some of my images I took during this year’s golden time. Actually I wasn’t out very often this fall and so I only took a handful of photographs. Nevertheless today I would like to show a couple of random images of Austrian birds in their mostly colourful autumn habitats.
At dawn the silhouettes start to appear.
Breathtaking conditions after a grey day. Once more it was so much worth the effort to go out and hike up it actually very uncomfortable cold and rainy weather with heavy fog, just to be there right when the magic happens.
In the very first light of the day this little family appeared out of the littoral zone of the lake ...
Fresh green covered in fresh dew.
Last but not least I'm pretty happy that I could finally manage to update my
galleries, which I haven't done for more than a year now. So don't hesitate to check them out :)
PS.: Please don't forget, that I still kindly invite everyone how's interested in my work and would like to receive a short e-mail notification everytime I show some new images here, to drop me a short line to
photo@rupertkogler.com, so that I can keep you updated.
Los Alerces somehow reminded me of the Austrian Salzkammergut but without signs of civilistaion. The Salzkammergut must have looked pretty similar to this before the human settlement.
Here’s the result of the behind-the-scenes image from my latest bird entry. As long as the wildlife behaves naturally, you know the animal feels comfortable.
Obsession. Probably the right word to describe the rutting spectacle.

Please also make sure to check out the preview of the whole piece.

In German: Cheers! ;) Living in a world of slopes …
Suddenly we noticed all this tiny little crystals in the air shimmerng in all colors.

If you look closely you’ll spot some friends in the distance.
At last I want to show one of my attempts of capturing the meteor shower which was at its peak in the night from August 12
th to 13
th 2015. The weather forecast for this particular night was pretty good and so we decided to drive to a bit more remote area with a nice surrounding. But we haven’t been the only ones out there and due to all the camping people around the lake with all their bright campfires and headlamps I finally started photographing not until 04:00 a.m. as dawn was already noticeable.
Another snow field to cross.
There are some exciting caves along the litte Erlauf Canyon in Lower Austria. Unfortunately also this small piece of not-cultivated land becomes more and more touristic exploited.
The title image of these two series. For me this picture captures the mood of the rut very well. I took it in extremely poor light at ISO10000, f2.8, 1/40sec.
A wonderful calm morning at the lake completey embedded into the woods.
Picture perfect Hellebore at the end of the day.
I encountered this Chilean Flicker on my way back from shooting landscape images at the shores of Laguna Torre and it posed kindly for a portrait shot ...
An Andean Condor circling in front of the massiv granite towers in Torres del Paine National Park.
A behind-the-curtains-image. Since I’m not the kind of hide-building-photographer, I’m always looking for locations which provide natural camouflage like trees and bushes. And I’m also scouting for positions which can offer more than one direction and subject.
