Home of the birds part I

Sunday, 24 June 2018

Long time no see ... Although half of the year is already over, it's the first time I could manage to go through and process some of my new images and to upload them here. But of course, there's already much more of 2018 in the pipeline and one day I'll find the time to show a little more of my new work here ;) This first set contains bird pictures from Austria's easternmost national park called Neusiedler See - Seewinkel. Since my last exhibition took place in the visitor center of the park, I spent a few days in the area for the installation and the demounting and I could also find some time to grab my camera to take a few images. And as always, to experience the birdlife of the national park was a great pleasure.

Home of the birds part I

A Marsh Harrier spying out the reeds around Lake Neusiedl for prey, while I’m spying out the bird.

Maybe one of the most underestimated birds.

A lovely encounter in the late morning.

Life for young animals mostly isn't as cozy as it looks like ...

Silent hunter in the shallow waters of Lake Neusiedl as the sun sets.

Another Blue Heron looking for dinner right between the edge of the reed and the open water.

Just because I prefer small scale images doesn't mean that I don't have something else in my archive ;) So here's a common kestrel in flight showing its beauty.

Taking a little rest high up in the trees.

Probably the most common bird in the national park.

As you probably already noticed in the title of this blog entry, there will come more bird pictures of this location in one of my next series.

BioPhotoContest 2018

Saturday, 23 June 2018

Again I'm very pleased to announce that some of my images received an award in a prestigious international competition, this time the BioPhotoContest. The yearly topic of this competition always refers to one of the erath's biomes. This year "Prairies, steppes and savannah". So it was actually quite a challenge to compete with Africa's amazing grasslands ;) You can see my successful images below.

Alpine meadows in Austria's highest mountain region.

A real treasure in an ocean of dew on a meadow in Styria, Austria.

Patagonia also offers lots of vast open spaces dominated by grass and bushes.

What an amazing year so far :) For the first time I succeeded with three photographs in one contest. Make sure to check out all the awarded works. Congratulations to everyone!

Big Picture Natural World Photography Competition 2018

Wednesday, 2 May 2018

In the hope that I don't bore you with this image, I'm extremely excited to announce, that "Sensitive Forest Beings" came out as the winner of the "Landscapes, Waterscapes and Flora" category of the Big Picture Natural World Photography Competition presented by the California Academy of Sciences.

Big Picture Natural World Photography Competition 2018

Such a pleasure, that my photograph of this little flowers will be displayed at the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco :)

This recognition is especially delightful since there is only one catgeory for landscapes and plants in this competition, only a very few images receive an award, the jury is definitely top-class and best of all, the image will be exhibited at the academy. Check out all the winners and finalists here. Congrats to everyone!
