Neue Workshoptermine 2018
Thursday, 5 April 2018
Glanzlichter 2018
Tuesday, 27 March 2018
I'm pretty excited, that two of my images are awarded in this year's Glanzlichter, one of the biggest international nature photography competitions. Not enough of that, "Sensitive Forest Beings" finally came out as the winner of the Beauty of Plants category. Furthermore also "The Artist" was awarded in the Diversity of all other Animals category. Lucky me :)
Awesome, that one of the most magical moments in nature I could capture so far got this great recognition and won one of the eight categories with more than 18,000 international submissions.
This little backlit setting was finally highly commended in the other animals category.
Of course I recommend to check out all the awarded works online on the
Glanzlichter website. Congratulations to everyone else, I'm very much looking forward to meet you all in Fürstenfeldbruck!
Addional encounters
Tuesday, 13 March 2018
In my very last posting which contains left-over images of the past year, I would like to display some pictures of a few additional non-bird animal encounters I could enjoy. Especially photographing mammals in Central Europe ist quite challenging. There are only a few species and most of them are extremely shy and well hidden. So, it's always a special moment to encounter one of them.
I was lucky to experience some of the best cloud/fog/sun conditions I witnessed last year while I was photographing this Chamois at the Gesäuse National Park.
An other Chamois image. This one was taken at the High Tauern National Park and shows the rough and rocky habitat of the animal.
The filght distance of Red Deer is about 200 to 400 meters. So, every sighting is special.
Lovely colored guys, but mostly very well hidden.
In early autumn I was lucky enough to spot two European Pond Turtles. These fascinating animals are the only native tortoises in Central Europe (not to be confused with the abandoned pet turtles which can be found from time to time in the wetlands), critically endangered in Austria and probably one of the rarest vertebrates in this country.
What a great pleasure to watch the subadult Chamois fooling around in this incredible evening light up in the mountains of the Gesäuse National Park.
A female Chamois stands togehter with her fawn in heavy mountain fog.
Unfortunately during all the days I was photographing the Red Deer rut in the wetlands I only got exciting light conditions one morning but no Red Deer appearend. Luckily this Roe Deer buck did me a huge favor an remedied the situation as he crossed, almost invisible, the open meadow.
Busy guy up in the tree pausing for a brief moment to have a look at me.
Now it's definitely time for new adventures and experiences. Thanks everyone for hanging on! I'm very much looking forward to the next ten months which will be extremely exciting for sure with some completely new challenges and pleasures lying ahead :)
