Well, it's been quite a while since my latest entry here, I know ... A lot has happened in the last two years or so and it has been a pretty busy time. Actually it still is. Although I never spent less time behind my camera as I did since 2022, I had the great pleasure, to go for a few adventures and enjoy some memorable moments in nature, especially with my little ones. The meantime was mainly filled with doing my apprenticeship and working as a nationalpark ranger for the Gesäuse National Park and the Kalkalpen National Park, running workshops, working on a new book togehter with other photographers, raising two children, going on a few trips, spending countless hours behind my computer, selling my "Natürliche Nähe" book, moving to an other city and still trying to find time to point my camera at stuff from time to time. You can find some of the results in the small selection below.

"Barren Blue" was awarded at the European Wildlife Photographer of the Year, already back in November 2023. Always a very great honor, to get some recognition at this event and get in touch with lovely and like-minded people. Still very happy about this achivement.
My ambitions as a nature photographer and the goals of nationalparks are most widely the same. So working also as a park ranger now, giving people an understanding of the importance of unaffecetd nature, fits pretty perfectly.
In early summer this year we spent six weeks in our tent, exploring some of Californias natural treasures around the Sierra Nevada. Among others, we spent enriching time in stunning woodlands, like the sequoia forests. The mule deer you can see here is bigger as the roe deer, we have here in Central Europe, so you can get an idea of the size of the sequoia trees.
Lovely wildflowers on the wet meadow, mesmerizing walls of rock, 3,000 feet high, lots of sunshine and a red-winged blackbird. One of the countless exciting moments we experienced in America.
This image is dedicated to our son, Tim, and one of his companions, a huge black bear, we met nearby a canyon river in California. Both of them were observing each other for quite some time ... Tim just turned six and started going to school this week. In my humble opinion, there are actually just a few things, which are necessary for a bright future on this planet. Among others, connecting to and feeling part of the natural world, seems absolutely crucial to me nowadays, since the wellbeing of all current life on earth will depend on this. And whatever the future will bring, there's no doubt, that it will be our children, who will create it. So let's take them out into real nature as often as possible, teach them tolerance, give them love and provide them education.

In ein paar Tagen darf ich in der Musikschule Steyregg ein wenig über meine Arbeit als Naturfotograf, meine Motivation und vor allem über mein Projekt Natürliche Nähe sprechen, den dazugehörigen Bildband präsentieren und eine Ausstellung eröffnen.

Fotografien können nur dann Sinn stiften, wenn sie auch in einem vernünftigen Rahmen gesehen und im besten Fall gefühlt werden können. Und der (erste) Bildband zu meinem Langzeitprojekt Natürliche Nähe soll das ermöglichen. Daher freut es mich außerordentlich, dass das Werk schließlich vollendet, gedruckt und verfügbar ist. Ich möchte mich an dieser Stelle noch einmal ganz herzlich bei all jenen bedanken, die durch ihre Unterstützung die Realisierung ermöglicht haben! Das Buch ist im Eigenverlag erschienen und zeigt auf 264 Seiten neben knapp 300 meiner besten Aufnahmen aus elf Jahren in den Auen, zehn Kurzgeschichten, persönliche Gedanken, allerhand Wissenswertes und Beschreibungen zu allen Fotografien.
Gedruckt wurde vom großartigen gugler Kommunikationshaus Cradle to Cradle zertifiziert und in bester Qualität auf feinstem Papier, ...
... gebunden in ein geprägtes Hardcover im Format 297x204 mm.
Die Vermittlung von Atmosphäre steht bei den Aufnahmen im Vordergrund. Rein biologisch-dokumentarische Abbildungen, etwa zur Hilfe bei der Artbestimmung oder geografische Details, spart das Buch, teils auch aus Verantwortungsbewusstsein, weitestgehend aus.
Neben Fakten, Hintergrundinformationen und persönlichen Anekdoten finden sich in dem Werk auch etliche Gedankenanstöße zum Umgang mit Natur und zu Naturerlebnissen. "Eine philosophische Herangehensweise." (Martin Hartmann)
Wie beim gesamten Projekt ist auch hier der Anspruch ein visuell-ästhetischer und weniger ein sachlich-dokumentarischer. Der Transport von Emotionen, als Schlüssel zur Anerkennung des umfassenden Wertes dieser naturnahen Gebiete, steht klar im Vordergrund. So zeigt das Buch ein reduzierte Auswahl an großformatigen Fotografien, bei großem Augenmerk auf Qualität und Ästhetik.
Die Motivpalette erstreckt sich von Landschaftsaufnahmen über Details und Pflanzenfotografien bis hin zu Wildtierfotos. Alle Aufnahmen stammen selbstverständlich ausnahmslos aus den Auen um Linz und zeigen ausschließlich unbeeinflusste und unretuschierte Naturmomente.
Der Bildband umfasst zehn Kapitel, welche je von einer sehr persönlichen Kurzgeschichte zu speziellen fotografischen Momenten in den Auen eingeleitet werden. Die kurzweiligen Geschichten verstehen sich als heitere Ergänzungen zu den weiteren sachlich-analytischen Texten des Buches.
Selbstverständlich spielen die Fotografien die Hauptrolle im Bildband und begleitender Text wurde ganz bewusst sehr eingeschränkt. Freilich soll der Informationsgehalt aber dennoch nicht zu kurz kommen und so finden sich Bildbeschreibungen zu allen Abbildungen im Anhang. Hier werden unter anderem alle gezeigten Tier- und Pflanzenarten genannt und der Bildband erfüllt so wohl auch die Wünsche von besonders Naturinteressierten.
