Kingdom of dignity part II

Wednesday, 17 August 2016

It’s time for the second part of my alpine ibex image series. Since I already lost some words in the first set, you can find below, I will confine myself to the pictures this time. Enjoy!

Kingdom of dignity part II

Everyone was taking a rest as the sun finally came up. Me too.

Most of the flowers in this area are pretty small, so it’s always difficult to capture them appealing in all the grass.

I spent just one evening there, but these extremely cozy creatures are always a pleasure.

Of course spring is always the most pleasant and exciting time for me as a nature lover. There‘s just so much going on, that it‘s often kind of hard to decide where to go ;) Hopefully I will find some time to work on all my spring images soon. Thanks for staying tuned. Good night.

Canon EOS 5DII, EF 17-40mm f/4L USM, tripod, polarizer
f22, ISO200, +2EV, 1sec., 19mm

So, last but not least I would like to wish you all the very best for the upcoming year. Take care of you and your surroundings! And of course I hope you’ll follow my work also in 2016 ;) Peace.

A sudden encounter during a peaceful morning.

In very early spring the Snowdrops are rather closed ...

Rainy days in May are always a great opportunity for creek and forest photography.

Once more I was struggling to stand my ground because of the heavy storm gusts which coming from the lake on this particular morning. But they forced the water to rise into the air and since the morning sun was behind me, the countless fast moving water droplets created awesome racing rainbows coming towards me just right before the gust hit me. So take a closer look at this image ;)

A wonderful hidden forest stream running towards the mountains and into the lake.

Of course Mount Lanín isn’t the only volcano in the Patagonian Lake District. There are lots of other spectacular snow covered peaks in the area, especially on the Chilean side. Nevertheless we once again preferred to spend some more time in one area for a better experience.

Cotton grass along the way.

A small exemplar surrounded by the high and dew covered grass.

In the areas below the fog, the trees were still covered in thick hoarfrost.

Since it's always a pity, that you can't watch all the details of the images when they're resized to this very small web resolution, I decided to create two 100% crop free wallpapers of "Magic curtain". A cold and a warmer version, both in Full HD resolution (1920x1080px) and without any resizing. Just go for it by clicking this link for the cold wallpaper and this link for the warmer one. For your pleasure and to bring you a slice of nature’s magic :)

We followed this particular stream for a longer time and actually around every corner we discovered another wonderful view.

The first four images you can see here were all taken somewhere in Oppland close to Rondane National Park. As we approached the park for the first time we had to drive through this awesome mountain area, so that we decided to come back again. And that’s what we did. Unfortunately I don’t know the name of this area.

Pines are by far the most common trees there.

All in all we deeply enjoyed our time in this area. The wild place is a real wonderland completely covered with softness, easy to explore and with endless details to discover.

Mont Photo 2015

Saturday, 4 July 2015

I'm pretty excited to announce, that two of my images have been awarded at the MontPhoto Contest. This is my first success in a serious international competition and I'm very honored to be among a group of such great photographers, many of which I'm really looking up to. Make sure to drop by at MontPhoto's website and see the galleries of the awarded works to check out all the other stunning photographs! Congrats to all of the winners!

Mont Photo 2015

Reminds me of a cat.

Everytime I see the ibexes moving and jumping around with ease in their steep rocky environment, I’m quite surprised and pretty impressed how they can manage to clinch themselves on the rocks without having fingers. They jump up metres high rock walls like a cat jumping onto a fence or they graze on almost vertical meadows completely relaxed like the deer does in the lowlands. Fascinating and graceful.

So this was part II of IV of my ibex collection. Hope you’ll stay tuned.

One can not only find the orchids here, there are also lots of other different and colorful flowers around.

Spring disco part I

Tuesday, 2 May 2017

I'm pleased to finally share my first few fresh images of this year here. As mostly I started the new season with photographing the first wildflowers which appear as soon as the temperatures start to rise a bit. After a couple of cold and rather grey months it's always pretty delightful to see the first dots of colors pop up from the forest floors. Because I don't own a macro lens I usually shoot flowers with my telephoto lens, but this year I borrowed a macro lens and I really enjoyed using it. So, I created most of the images you'll find here with this lens.

Great sunset over the sea, captured on Valdés peninsula.

A beautiful encounter during a gorgeous sunrise.

Heavy winds and emerald waters.

Again the Cuernos del Paine. This time during the second phase of a wonderful two-parted sunset.

The queen of orchids part I

Monday, 6 February 2017

Also in 2016 I tried to catch the Lady’s Slipper Orchid in bloom. As with all rare wildflowers this is mostly rather difficult, because one has to be there on time and the areas where flowers like that can be found are often quite remote. But during the last season I was lucky to find some new locations close to the valley I already knew but much easier to reach. So that I could save some longer hikes. And furthermore I discovered a completely new habitat in Upper Austria. Beside to shorter hiking distances both new places can offer better photographic opportunities, because the light is more exciting than in the known valley in Lower Austria where the sun only comes up around noon.

You can find the roe deer also in the higher mountain regions. I took this image on about 2.500m above sea level.

Eastern birds part II

Tuesday, 21 June 2016

So here we go with the second series of bird images taken in the areas of the Neusiedlersee-Seewinkel National Park in eastern Austria in April. No sophisticated hide photography or something like that, just a few more impressions of what I experienced while I was strolling around in the park. Hope you’ll enjoy.
