Salty & fresh part I - New Zealand part XVIII

Friday, 17 April 2020

(Since, as you all probably know already, my main goal is to raise awareness for the importance of wild nature by showing it in my images, it seems important to me to display some of the pictures, of course. Unfortunately I still just cannot find the time to write the articles I would like to here on my website for all my series of images. So I decided to show the upcoming sets of images just with a very few words instead of not showing them at all. Sorry for that. Hope you enjoy the pictures nevertheless and may they hopefully speak for themselves. And of course, your thoughts and feedback are welcome anytime.) The series you can see in this blog entry shows the first set of images of the area around Purakaunui Bay and of Surat Bay in New Zealand.

As actually almost every day, also that morning I got up long before sunrise.

Beautiful sunrise and always interesting foreground elements at low tide.

We just stopped by at the waterfall once and I was lucky with the sun piercing through the lush foliage after some heavy rain.

Unending beaches and unending surf.

Again very attractive patterns and shapes at low tide.

Cozy bed of sand.

One of those extremely delightful morning strolls, while the family was still sleeping in the van.

Drenched forests full of greens can be found just behind the beaches plenty of times in New Zealand.

It was my great pleasure to spend this particular morning with this particular Kea.

The plumage of these parrots is quite well adapted to the environment they're living in.

As you can see, the majority of the nests was abandoned as I took this image. Nevertheless a wonderful experience and a very lovely view.

The sea spray provided an appealing bright background for this portrait.

There are not only gannets to spot in Muriwai. A Sacred Kingfisher sharing the habitat.

You could already find this one in my 2019 recap. So I hope you'll enjoy it again.

One more Kea silhouette shot.

Sharing the golden beach with a Pied Shag, drying its wings.

In April autumn finally arrives in New Zealand and the fall foliage slowly gets more and more.

Proper place in proper conditions to celebrate Sabine's birthday :)

A Kea taking off infront of the burning skies.

I have to admit, that I never feel attracted by situations where animals are attracted by people, like lots of Keas are on different touristic hot spots in New Zealand. I don't want to observe or even capture them on parking lots. So I was quite happy to spend some time with two Keas in their natural habitat.

Shot almost straight towards the harsh sun of the late morning.

Daybreak at the gannet colony.

A close-up showing the beautiful colored face of these birds.

Gently illuminated by the first sun of the day.

Fantastic morning conditions on our campsite.

Backlit mist never gets old.
